Late summer sail
We launched at 1500 so it will be a short sail. Just enough to calm down and enjoy late summer weather.
The wind was weak, with gusts of 10m/s. No reef needed.
We sail with the Southerly wind towards Björköfjärden. Clear sky, warm.
Just behind the bridge the wind dies. I start the engine after waiting for too long.
Motoring towards entrance to our channel - there seems to be calm everywhere.
I almost lost hope. Just a few more minutes motoring - it’s never too late to give up…
But no - there is wind! Björköfjärden, this long, wide gutter - there always is blowing there!
I decide to beat a bit against the wind, towards Fiskebyn. Just for kicks.
There is hardly anyone around, only one sail on the horizon: they go on spinnaker from Norrtäljeviken. Fast boat, after only half an hour they are close to me. Another sailboat, on engine, pops up behind me.
I abandon Fiskebyn as a waypoint and fall of the wind, to follow the spinnaker-sailboat. It is time to sail back anyway, the sky got cloudy and it is getting cold.
I take a shortcut through shallow water. Big boat cannot sail here but we are no longer big boat company.
Whole way back through Vätösund on engine. There is hardly any wind there. We are back at the slip at 1800.
No rain yet but one feels that it is close. As in the forecast.
We managed to retrieve Louve without problems.
Good afternoon sailing.
